Yosemite Valley Chapel in Snow Storm

It’s not often I’ve watched snowfall and by that I mean “watch” snow fall. As a child I’ve waited for snowfall to end in order to be let out to play and as an adult I’ve darted from point A to B in a car while it has started to snow… Continue reading

Sometimes A Comfortable Silence

It was the middle of April, at the height of lilac season. Lilacs are my favorite flower, so while I was in the Castro, I stopped by a florist to pick up a bunch. The lilacs were outside the shop, under a big awning, and as I was sniffing every bunch to find the perfect one I turned around and saw these two beagles, just sitting there. This little matched duo, set against the similarly matched set of two silver cars. The crumpled glowing orange leash was the clincher. Clearly, I had to get a shot. Before I bought my lilacs. Commanding Officer

Does anyone know this man? I was riding my bike up the Embaradero in San Francisco on my way to work and saw him walking by. It might have been Fleet Week. An Embarcadero warehouse had its door open with a giant American flag. I jumped off my bike and asked him if I could take his picture. Continue reading

Sedona Portraits in a Creek

What is the best time to go swimming in a creek with a camera? How about in mid October when the water is ice cold. OK, so I didn’t go swimming, and that is never the goal when the camera is resting 6 inches above the chest deep water, on the tripod that you are also using to stabilize yourself when you move left or right to get the right camera angle. Capturing the Elusive Moment

“Why are you taking pictures of random people,” Raven asked on our cruise with Sapphire Princess to Mexico. My husband doesn’t understand art, photography, or even me sometimes. But goddess knows he’s been supporting 100% me ever since we met 10 yrs ago. I’m always on guard to capture the elusive moment that is only in the world for a split second. Continue reading

Derek Wood & The Fury

This photo taught me that being around amazing people is better than anything else in the world ever. I purchased this bike with my buddy Michael O’Neal at a fancy thrift store in Southern California on a road trip from … Continue reading

The Cello Player

I was standing behind a group of people taking a photograph of the view from this spot in Dolores Park and somebody was not happy about having an unposed photograph taken. There was some heckling, I was called names. My natural inclination was to walk away, but I felt that I had taken the insults and now they owed me a photograph. So I waited for a few moments. Continue reading

Moody’s Jump

This is the first image I ever asked permission to take, and it was one of the first shots where I had started to become conscious of the direction and quality of light. It was August in the Mission in San Francisco. Continue reading

Off the Beaten Path

Every city has many faces and many stories. Alas, we usually see only the most famous ones, where flocks of people have trod and taken multitude of photos. There’s nothing wrong with taking a good shot of a classic piece of architecture or urban landscape, but it pays to step off the beaten path and explore the city how it should be done – on foot. Continue reading

Soleil

I shot this photo in August of 2007 on Ilford Delta 400 film, and later printed it in the darkroom at the Hamburger Eyes Photo Epicenter. Continue reading
